Why Choose an electric vehicle

Convenience, low-running cost and sustainability.

Current modern electric vehicles are already a very efficient mode of transport.
  • They run at a cost equivalent of 340 miles per gallon (see our own Nissan Leaf figures)
  • They can easily achieve annual 27,000 miles in domestic journeys (1) – up to 36,000 miles/year is possible)
  • Commercial local transport is up to 3.5 tonnes
  • Vehicles can be charged using 100% renewable electricity tariffs including Eco-tricity, Good Energy and LoCo2Energy
  (1) Assuming commuting 50 miles to work and charging, plus 5,000 miles personal travel. 220 working days times 100 miles a day plus 5,000 = 27,000 miles per year.

Benefits of operating electric vehicles

Reduced Operating Costs

  • Fuel is a significant part of a vehicle’s whole life cost. Electric cars charged from off-peak electricity can dramatically reduce this (typically equivalent to 340 mpg)
  • Less dependence on increasingly costly fossil fuels
  • Battery and drive train are maintenance free

Reduced Carbon Emissions

  • Electric vehicles can be recharged from 100% renewable electricity tariffs – even more energy efficient when combined with electric solar panels
  • Renewable electricity can be generated from increasingly common sources – all available for electric vehicles to utilize

Low fuel cost
[1] Some dealers present the price of the vehicle with the grant already removed. [2] Assumptions
  • 20% UK corporation tax
  • an average EV price of £22k
  • a company is making more than £4.4k profit in the associated year
  • electric vehicles form part of an overall strategy to reduce carbon fuel costs and carbon footprint to help the UK achieve its 80% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2050.
  • despite initially high purchase costs, domestic users are ideally placed to reduce their whole life costs when driving more than around 12,000 miles a year (e.g. by £10k for 19,000 miles a year).
